    In the early part of 2000, the Lord laid it on our hearts to home school our children.  Our oldest son had been in public school and was looking forward to summer vacation.  We didn't know how to go about home schooling, who to call, or what to do.  We were in the dark.  Then, one evening the Lord let everything come together. We acquired the phone number for NCHE and we started to get very excited. The next day we called the number and requested information.  When we received it, we studied it intently. It was then we decided this was for us. We sent in all the information requested and in August 2000 our oldest son began his first day in Heaven Bound Christian Home School. It's been a long but rewarding journey these past years, but we wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Our oldest son is now in the 8th grade and our other son is in the 2nd grade.

    Home schooling is a trial and error thing.  You must find what works best for your family. It helps to have others with which to discuss the matter of home education. We find our support at our church where we have other home school families.

    In a newsletter I received in 2000 from NCHE, they reported there was an estimated 13,294 home school families in North Carolina.  In a recent study I did on my computer, the Home School Legal Defense Association reported that home school students in North Carolina top 50,000. The National Census for Education Statistics reported 1.1 million home schooled students in the U.S. in 2003.
